Today dentists celebrate their day
"We are fundamental actors in the Health System and we must be included in all Primary Care policies developed in the country."
Dr Guillermo Vera, head of the Argentine Dental Confederation (CORA).
On October 3, the “Day of Latin American Dentistry” is commemorated, which has its origins since 1917 in a meeting held in Chile, in which dental representatives from Latin America participated at the proposal of the Argentine dentist Dr. Ubaldo Correa.
Our country was the cradle of dentists who marked the different academic ideological currents in all the specialties of this noble profession, such as dentistry.
The Latin American Dental Federation, FDI Regional, with more than 85 years of institutional life, is made up of the 20 countries of the Region that represent 350,000 dentists, almost 50% of the world’s human resources. The Latin American Dental Federation (FOLA) was established by the free will of dentists and their institutions on the occasion of the 1st Pan American Congress of Dentistry in Santiago, Chile. Later, that day, October 3, 1917, was established as “Latin American Dentistry Day”, commonly known as “Dentist’s Day”.
Since then, its actions have been strengthening ties of unity and integration between countries in the region, for the last 85 years, representing the Dentistry of the continent at each stage of institutional life. As a political institution it works ethically for the validity of Democracy, for equal representation, for active participation and solidarity, for the oral health of the people and for the hierarchization of our profession.
As a scientific institution dedicated to health, its mission is to collaborate with the governments of the continent in the development and execution of oral health programs that equitably reach all the inhabitants of Latin America.
