Like every September 29, World Heart Day is commemorated , a date established by the World Heart Federation and the World Health Organization (WHO) to learn more about cardiovascular diseases (CVD) as well as their prevention, control and treatment options.
This year’s motto is "Use your heart for every heart" and to explain its meaning the Argentine Cardiological Foundation divided it into two parts:
• Use your heart . It refers to thinking differently to make correct health decisions. Act bravely, to help others and commit to this important cause.
• For every heart. It shifts the focus from the actions to the beneficiaries of the actions, allowing for a more direct delivery of the message.
Cardiovascular diseases are, globally, the leading cause of death. To raise awareness, the Argentine Cardiological Foundation proposes three key pillars around the motto:
• Use your heart for humanity. Access to treatment and support for cardiovascular diseases varies widely around the world. More than 75% of CVD deaths occur in low- to middle-income countries, but access can be an issue anywhere. Working together on this date allows us to spread awareness and help make a difference in the lives of all humanity.
• Use your heart for nature. Air pollution is responsible for 25% of all CVD deaths and kills 7 million people each year. Whether it’s more immediate actions, like walking or cycling instead of traveling by car, or longer-term efforts, like supporting clean air legislation, each of us can contribute to a healthier planet in our own way.
• Use your heart for yourself. Psychological stress can double the risk of suffering a heart attack. Regular daily physical activity, eating a healthy diet, not smoking, practicing meditation and getting enough sleep help reduce stress levels, which contributes to quality of life and cardiovascular health.
