Aim:
Determine whether temperature screening is useful in detecting and reducing transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in the workplace.
Methods:
A survey was conducted to determine whether temperature screening successfully identified workers with COVID-19 among a convenience sample of medical directors of multinational corporations across a wide range of industries.
Results:
More than 15 million screenings were carried out by 14 companies.
Less than 700 fever episodes were identified.
Of these, only around 53 cases of COVID-19 were detected.
In contrast, around 2,000 workers with diagnosed COVID-19 were in the workplace and were not detected through temperature screening.
Conclusions: One case of COVID-19 was identified by detecting approximately every 40 missed cases. Workplace temperature screening was not effective in detecting workers with COVID-19 and is not recommended. |
